Target Audience

Suitable for 12 years and over

Exactly the same criteria are used to classify works at ‘12A’ and ‘12’. These categories are awarded where the material is suitable, in general, only for those aged 12 and over. Works classified at these categories may upset children under 12 or contain material which many parents will find unsuitable for them.

The ‘12’ category exists only for video works. No one younger than 12 may rent or buy a ‘12’ rated video work unless approved by an adult.

Discrimination

Discriminatory language or behaviour must not be endorsed by the work as a whole. Aggressive discriminatory language or behaviour is unlikely to be acceptable unless clearly condemned.

Drugs

Any misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorised or give instructional detail.

Horror

Moderate physical and psychological threat may be permitted only with provided scenes of disturbing sequences are not frequent or sustained.
Imitable behaviour

Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied, or appear pain or harm free,. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.
Language

Moderate language is allowed. The use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’) must be infrequent.
Nudity

Nudity is allowed, but in a sexual context must be brief and discreet.
Sex

Sexual activity may be briefly and discreetly portrayed. Sex references should not go beyond what is suitable for young teenagers. Frequent crude references are unlikely to be acceptable.

Theme

Mature themes are acceptable, but their treatment must be suitable for young teenagers.
Violence

Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context. Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated, and must have a strong contextual justification.

location Ideas

We have taken shots of sports cars and 4x4's as we plan to show these cars on a split screen in our video to show contrast between "glamour girl" and "hood chick".

We took shots of legs/feet walking towards the camera as we plan to start with a shot of glamorous heels walking and fading to high tops.

We are considering a shot of the "hood chick" playing basketball on a court.

Two old Student music video Analysis

Shove It

In the begining of this music video id does not any of the people as they are in shadows and you only see parts of them. In our music video at the start you will not be able to see them as you will only see their feet and shoes which gives you an idea of what they are going to look like. During the rap song they dance with little movements and in our music video we are going to have dance routine also with little movements also there is going to be a dance routine for the Glamour girl and the 'Hood Chick' However in this video it is set in a dark alley however we might locate in a street and rustic settings. However the sceen is not Glamourous as it is the opposite to it as it is dark with all paint on the walls etc

Boom

This video has influenced our thinking because it uses split screen to show different scenes by lots of fast cuts of the person running and on the other side sloe moving people as if they were chasing him. In our music video we though to use the split screen effect to show opposites (Glamour and 'Hood Chick') and the different angles show how opposite the Glamour Girl and 'Hood Chick' are. In our music video we are going to show in the spilt screens diiferent locations for the Glamour Girl and the 'Hood Chick' so that it shows the differences between them.

Goodwin Analysis

Christine Arguilera - Dirty

The music video Dirty by Christina Agruilera demonstrates genre characteristics through these conventions:
R&B/Pop - upbeat music
Lots of dance routines which allows the camera to be active
it is fast pace
club scenes, boxing ring
dark lights
lots of dancers

There is a relationship between the lyrics and visuals through a illustrative, abstract way.

There is a relationship between the music and visuals again which is very illustrative as the music is bouncy and you see a steady bounce through out the dance routines in the clip. Very energetic.

The motifs throughout the clip involve the camera focusing on the artist throughout showing her revealing clothes and her seductive moves.

The clip is very voyeuristic with Christina showing her skin/figure and wearing revealing clothes.

There in no intertextual references throughout the clip.

Michael Jackson - Black or White

The music video Black or White By Michael Jackson demonstrates genre characteristics through these conventions:
Pop- upbeat
lots of wildlife/nature
different cultures
colourful
different time periods/season - happy tune

There is a relationship between the lyrics and visuals through a illustrative.

There is a relationship between the music and visuals again which is very illustrative.

The motifs throughout doesn't focus on Michael Jackson but focuses on the other dancers and scenes.

The video is not voyeuristic and doesnt have intertexual references.
