Directors Commenatry

We decided to film our directors commentary evaluation as a conversation to make it look like a interview. We kept this simple so that we could answer all the evaluation questions. We decided to have an introduction of a montage of our music video and made the sound of each clip fall away when the talking begins. We decided to talk about an element of our music video and digipaks and then jump to the clips we are referring to in the answer. We decided to put each question before before each selection so that people know what questions we are answering. We put the questions in white on a photo that we used for our digipak so that it keeps with the theme of the music video.

Evaluation Questions

1. In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our music video develops the conventions of a music video as it

  • fits with the genre of hip hop/rap
  • we filmed the music the right the right location
  • had the right props and costumes for the genre of the video
  • the visuals we have relate to the lyrics of our song illustrative/amplifying
  • our music video goes with the genre.
  • we have made it more exciting so that it is not boring.

2.How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
We used the same to theme construct our ancillary products which is really effective as

  •  it relates to the genre of our music video
  • it does not have any scenes from our product in our digipak this makes it more interesting and effective to the audience.
  • has the image we have put on the front cover is urban style which is in black and white it does effectively work with our music video as it is also set in urban style
  • the combination will positively effect our music video and our ancillary products because they will make them stand out
3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
  • we have learnt that our music video has demonstrated the genre
  • as it is hip hop/rap we have used colours effectively to show the hip hop  and rap by making the scenes darker element
  • that the lyrics are illustrative
  • the lip syncing and performance are very good
  • that we have edited our media product brilliantly that made our music video pulse and made it exciting
4.How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
in construction
  • we have made the video interesting by editing the scenes by
  •  altering the colours to make it dark and red colour to make it more urban
  •  putting pulses in which moves the scene beat to the beat of the song.
  • we used green screen to make our music video look more urban which worked effectively
In the research:
  •  we looked at other music videos in the same genre to find out what conventions were used in that particular genre
  • when we came up with ideas we tested them in a editing program with test footage to see if it would work or not.
  • We took test footage to see if certain angles, shots etc would be right for our music video
planning
  • as our genre was hip hop rap we decided to find urban areas or style to film in
  • plan the location and costumes to fit
  • we made sure that we had the correct equipment so that we could film
  • we took photos of possible scenes on our music video to find out the correct angle and shot whether a close etc

Filters and special effects

Filters and special effects are used to change the footage for example taking footage and making it black and white by adding a filter. Filters are used to change footage to make it more exciting and make it appeal to the target audience. Filters are used to make the image brigther or darker. Special effects are added to footage so that it appears on the footage however but which is not on the real footage for example making a mirror effect so that there is a mirror effect in ur rough cut we used special effects to show that there is a mirror to one of the main characters. It is putting the same footage on top of each other and making some of the footage transparaent to create the mirror effect. Special effects makes the music video a lot dyamic and exciting ehich would appeal to the target audience so that they would buy the song.

Two old Student music video Analysis

Shove It

In the begining of this music video id does not any of the people as they are in shadows and you only see parts of them. In our music video at the start you will not be able to see them as you will only see their feet and shoes which gives you an idea of what they are going to look like. During the rap song they dance with little movements and in our music video we are going to have dance routine also with little movements also there is going to be a dance routine for the Glamour girl and the 'Hood Chick' However in this video it is set in a dark alley however we might locate in a street and rustic settings. However the sceen is not Glamourous as it is the opposite to it as it is dark with all paint on the walls etc

Boom

This video has influenced our thinking because it uses split screen to show different scenes by lots of fast cuts of the person running and on the other side sloe moving people as if they were chasing him. In our music video we though to use the split screen effect to show opposites (Glamour and 'Hood Chick') and the different angles show how opposite the Glamour Girl and 'Hood Chick' are. In our music video we are going to show in the spilt screens diiferent locations for the Glamour Girl and the 'Hood Chick' so that it shows the differences between them.
