Other mise en scene research
This is a shot of Labrinth's new music video "Earthquake". We liked that you could only see parts of his body at times meaning his overall image is slowly revealed; keeping the viewer interested.
We like the mystery of Michael Jackson in his videos with his slowly revealed entrance.
One of his techniques used to achieve this was to open the video with just his feet walking along. A good example of this is "Billie Jean". We were inspired to then open our video with a similar concept.
We wanted to use a lot of close ups to focus on the artist to make it clear who the video was focused on. We saw the effectiveness of this in Missy Eliot's "pass the dutch".
Directors Commenatry
We decided to film our directors commentary evaluation as a conversation to make it look like a interview. We kept this simple so that we could answer all the evaluation questions. We decided to have an introduction of a montage of our music video and made the sound of each clip fall away when the talking begins. We decided to talk about an element of our music video and digipaks and then jump to the clips we are referring to in the answer. We decided to put each question before before each selection so that people know what questions we are answering. We put the questions in white on a photo that we used for our digipak so that it keeps with the theme of the music video.
Magazine Advert Ideas
The idea we had for our magazine advert is to keep it simple but also keep it exciting and not as a single. We decieded to take the minipulated picture of the feet walking and made to darker to fit the theme of the music viideo and also to make it less bright. So that the text does not over power the picture by putting a black box and having the text white but only a few lines of text so that it does not crowd the image.
Ideas of digipak
We decided to create our digipack as a gate fold as we felt it looked more contemporary and attractive. The concept was to show power, arrogance, attitude and to pretty much sum up the albums genre. In order to do this a strong and striking image was required, we therefore agreed that the black room was where the photo would be taken, effectively there are no background distractions so the center image becomes sharper and is where the eye is automatically drawn . The concept is for me to be sitting in a composed manor as I pull out a cigarette when immediately everyone around lunges in with their lighters "to all light my cigarette". The powerful photo alone was definitely a strong piece but it needed an artistic twist. Upon the manipulation idea we copied the image and layered one above the other and slightly off center. Effectively the image is distorted and abstract, meeting one of our conventions that is "quirky".
Transition Types
Transition effects are used in music videos to cut between scenes to make the video more exciting and dynamic. When we did our rough cut we experimented with different types of transitions, to test which effect would best fit our genre. An example of this is when, at the beginning of the music video, where i'm walking towards the camera in red high tops and a cross dissolve transition fades to red high heels. We also used an affect to make the video pulse with the beat of the song. This was an effect created by us as to do this we had to manually enlarge a still within the music video and cut to the enlargement and back to the original size yet further in time, this was tricky but well worth it.
Digipak conventions
Digipaks are another form of a music album which mainly consists of a Cd with the tracks on. It is usually used for music videos and singles which means that it includes some speacial features such as a music video DVD. It usually appears in a book style. It should include:
- The name of the arist,
- The name of the song,
- Track listing,
- Bonus features such as behind the scenes,
- Website address,
- The branding of the record label,
- Photos of the band/singer

Magazine Advert
This is our magazine advert to promote our album. The aim here was to make it look urban and slightly quirky, to keep a theme going from the initial song and video as they contained these characteristics. We feel we have accomplished the objective through the manipulation of color and the fact this image is a powerful still from our music video means that this will attract the target audience effectively.

Script of Evaluation
Q1)
Saffy
We have used real media product conventions to develop our music video by editing. We have made a clip of walking forwards and reversed it to appear that it is taking a step back. This makes it more interesting to the audience.
Music Video
Hayley
We have also challenged media conventions by making to more interesting to the eye by editing the brightness and colour filters to make it look darker and to create an atmosphere. Also we made enlarged clips and added a pulse effect to go with the beat of the song.
Q2
Hayley
The concept that we have created for this music video focuses on a lot on power and attitude. we showed this through body language, costume and effects.

Voice over
- We have choreographed big, sharp and attitude movements
- We have used a pulse effect to portray power
- The costumes was selected to look almost manly to the contrast with glamour girl
Saffy
So in terms of representing this feeling in our digipak we knew we need to focus on power and attitude we felt our black and white photo of Hayley "the hood chick" got this feeling in a nut shell
Photo of digipak
Saffy Voice over
Effectively this is showing Hayley pulling out a cigarette and everyone jumping in to her with lighters. we manipulated this photo by copying the same image on top and putting it off centre creating a distorted effect. This was to make it quirky and interesting. The back cover of the album we wanted to keep it simple and non manipulative in order to keep it focused on the front image.
Q3)
We have learned from the feedback that we got that all the performances were very good as we used the genre and focused on the attitude and power. Also the lip syncing of the song was good which were then able to focus on getting the right movements and actions we wanted. Also we learnt that for filming we had know what we were filming and we had to keep to the deadlines otherwise we would not have enough time to finish the project and also with editing we had to keep enough time to be able to finish editing our music video. Also the clips match the song and the lyrics which made powerful and with attitude.
Q4)
We used new media technology in construction research new ideas and possible effects we could use. We used the internet mainly to look on youtube to watch past music videos and analyse them, We also used the internet to find background images for green screen. Also we took test photos and footage to see if it would work and with what type angle and camera shot needed for our music video.

Album Gate Fold - A.Dot
This is our digipak cover and it does work with the dark colours and theme of our music video of urban hip hop/rap. The photo of the person with the cigaeratte and as it looks as if there is two people sitting there just like the feet in our magazine advert.

Filters and special effects
Filters and special effects are used to change the footage for example taking footage and making it black and white by adding a filter. Filters are used to change footage to make it more exciting and make it appeal to the target audience. Filters are used to make the image brigther or darker. Special effects are added to footage so that it appears on the footage however but which is not on the real footage for example making a mirror effect so that there is a mirror effect in ur rough cut we used special effects to show that there is a mirror to one of the main characters. It is putting the same footage on top of each other and making some of the footage transparaent to create the mirror effect. Special effects makes the music video a lot dyamic and exciting ehich would appeal to the target audience so that they would buy the song.
Plan of what remains to be done
The tasks that we still need to is the filming and editing of our music video so that we can meet the deadline. Also we need to co,plete the digipak and magazine ad research and design. We also need to complete the rest of the blog posts. such as analysis old digipaks and magazine adverts. to give feedback to another groups rough cut of their music video. We also need to research filters and transitions for our music video.
Magazine Ad Research
A magazine advert of a music video usually has a picture relating to the music video and sometimes a image of the singer. Also the advert has the name of the song and album in big letters to make it stand out. It also has ratings from mainly newspapers the ratings are usually from one to five stars and underneath the stars the newspapers always has a caption like "The best song of the month" for example. The magazine adverts has make sure that te song and album stands out the target audinece so that we album and music video would sell. The adverts words have to eye catching colourful and the picture has to show the grooup and what the music video is about.

Digipak Research
A digipak is a type of music video which consists of a paper board style (Book Style) album. It has two plastic trays cable of holding DVDs or CDs in some cases Digi pack is used to hold a DVD and a CD. The digipak is usually used for CD singles and special music DVDigipak or special edition CDs. It is used also as a premium package for DVDs and DVD sets. Even though a digipak is designed not to scratch however the CD tray especially the teeth in the middle are still very brittle.
Codes and convestions of a DigiPak?
* The front cover should include the artisits name and the title of the album, which often had bold and eye-catching typography.
* They usually having some picture or pattern demonstrating the artist/band, such as a shot of the artisit.
* The colours tend to connote the mood and content of the album and reflex's the narrative as well as the artist on the back and front of the DigiPak - they tend be be simple and not over powering and over complicated, as this allows the audience to analyse the cover easier and captures their eye quicker.
* The mise en scene denotes features of the album, the artisits personality or signiture, props that represent the genre of the artist or song.
* The spine has the name of the artisit and the name of the album, which allows the audience to identify it when on a shelf/cd rack.
* Logos, production company/label, record label, iconography, copy right information, barcode (bottom right or on a black strip on the side) etc. all tend to be on the back of the DigiPak.
* On a DVD digipak there is a blurb outlining the content on the disk as well as the name of the song/video or tracks as well as any bonus features.
* They are usually made out of Cardboard and have a Matt Laminated cover, which increases the durability.
* Some DVD digipaks have a classification on the front and back (detailing what it contains e.g. a 15 "Strong language".

Summary of Planning
The planing we have done so far is that we have thourght up intails ideas for our music video and what location we are going to film it in alsowe have made a list if all the costumes we will need and the also got all the props ready. We have analysied two past music videos to get some ideas of what to do but the main influence was the real music video as it gave us a idea of what they did and gave us an idea of split screen to show the opposites. We have done test footage to practice out shots we would need and what angles we need to shoot. We were then able to test out the split screen and we found that the screen is samll and everything as to be expactly the same size and distance and the background has to be the same otherwise it would look strange. We have gone through the song bit by bit and decided what we are going to do at each part also we decided that we are going to film the same part every time the corus is sung.

Target Audience
Suitable for 12 years and over
Exactly the same criteria are used to classify works at ‘12A’ and ‘12’. These categories are awarded where the material is suitable, in general, only for those aged 12 and over. Works classified at these categories may upset children under 12 or contain material which many parents will find unsuitable for them.
The ‘12’ category exists only for video works. No one younger than 12 may rent or buy a ‘12’ rated video work unless approved by an adult.
Discrimination
Discriminatory language or behaviour must not be endorsed by the work as a whole. Aggressive discriminatory language or behaviour is unlikely to be acceptable unless clearly condemned.
Drugs
Any misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorised or give instructional detail.
Horror
Moderate physical and psychological threat may be permitted only with provided scenes of disturbing sequences are not frequent or sustained.
Imitable behaviour
Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied, or appear pain or harm free,. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.
Language
Moderate language is allowed. The use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’) must be infrequent.
Nudity
Nudity is allowed, but in a sexual context must be brief and discreet.
Sex
Sexual activity may be briefly and discreetly portrayed. Sex references should not go beyond what is suitable for young teenagers. Frequent crude references are unlikely to be acceptable.
Theme
Mature themes are acceptable, but their treatment must be suitable for young teenagers.
Violence
Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context. Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly and discreetly indicated, and must have a strong contextual justification.
location Ideas
We have taken shots of sports cars and 4x4's as we plan to show these cars on a split screen in our video to show contrast between "glamour girl" and "hood chick".
We took shots of legs/feet walking towards the camera as we plan to start with a shot of glamorous heels walking and fading to high tops.
We are considering a shot of the "hood chick" playing basketball on a court.

Two old Student music video Analysis
Shove It
In the begining of this music video id does not any of the people as they are in shadows and you only see parts of them. In our music video at the start you will not be able to see them as you will only see their feet and shoes which gives you an idea of what they are going to look like. During the rap song they dance with little movements and in our music video we are going to have dance routine also with little movements also there is going to be a dance routine for the Glamour girl and the 'Hood Chick' However in this video it is set in a dark alley however we might locate in a street and rustic settings. However the sceen is not Glamourous as it is the opposite to it as it is dark with all paint on the walls etc
Boom
This video has influenced our thinking because it uses split screen to show different scenes by lots of fast cuts of the person running and on the other side sloe moving people as if they were chasing him. In our music video we though to use the split screen effect to show opposites (Glamour and 'Hood Chick') and the different angles show how opposite the Glamour Girl and 'Hood Chick' are. In our music video we are going to show in the spilt screens diiferent locations for the Glamour Girl and the 'Hood Chick' so that it shows the differences between them.
